The contrast is evident in the very beginning. The lines are straight, the spacing is not accidental and nothing hangs after a few windy nights. The problem does not lie in the fact that the number of lights increases but the circumstances that surround the use of the lights. The outlines of the rooflines are clean, there are no crammed windows and everything is in its place where your eyes think it should be.
It also provides some relief in letting someone do it. Guessing will not do, neither will a second attempt at the shop, since a strand snapped, half-way cut. It is accomplished with one stroke, and you see it accomplished--as you would always like to see it accomplished.
Lighting is more important than some one may think. Warm white will not darken the house, but will lend it that homely appearance. Coloured lights can also be used but some discretion is required. I have witnessed it being arranged in such a way that all the colors are vying to be noticed and it becomes sloppy. A professional can find a balance more easily without compromising character in clearing up.
What amazed me is the fact that it is much cleaner during the day. When properly installed wires are concealed and clips are hardly noticeable and nothing is hanging about. You do not receive that temporary impression. it only dissolves into the house until the night is.
A second silent win is longevity. The weather is not nice, it might be raining, hot or there might be some wind blowing. The system would only require a few weeks to install and with the appropriate installation the system would be able to last the season due to its design. Minimal outage, minimal change, minimal frustrations.
I believed that the time saving was the key advantage of it. That, all right, part of that. However, it is more related to the outcome. When everything is in tune and is not trembling, the house is not the same. A bit kinder, a bit keener. You can tell whether the lighting has been well done or it was in a hurry even when you are on the street.
The after-effect is also present. You are not like you are, spending the month of December fixing something or changing lamps every second. The lights simply stand and silently carry out their task. And that continuity--better than any--modifies the feeling of the entire season.
